[BERNAMA] PASIR MAS, Jan 8 - Kelantan Umno liaison chief Datuk Mustapa Mohamed regards the 102 PAS members from Kampung Binjal, Pohon Tar, here joining Umno as a good sign for the party in the next general election.
He said their joining Umno also showed that the people in the state were fed up with the PAS administration, which had become increasingly chaotic of late due to several arising issues.
"I am thankful that the 102 PAS members chose to join Umno and would treat this as a motivation to undertake a comprehensive effort to return Kelantan to Umno," he told reporters at a "Function withTok Pa
At the function, Mustapa who is also International Trade and Industry Minister, also received 102 Umno membership forms which were handed over by former Kampung Binjal PAS branch secretary, Tuan Roni Raja Sulaiman.
Mustapa said the effort was not a fantasy because in 2004, the "Selamat Tinggal PAS" (Goodbye PAS) drive proved effective when the Barisan Nasional (BN) won big although it failed to capture Kelantan.
"It is up to the people in Kelantan now to decide whether they want a chaotic government or us (BN)," he said.
Tuan Roni, who joined PAS 15 years ago, said he decided to quit PAS and join Umno as he was disappointed and felt cheated by PAS rule.
"PAS has failed to implement many of its promises. It fact, its state administration is now in turmoil as they are caught up in political polemics to the extent of neglecting the people's interests.
"PAS tries to cover up its many weaknesses and the people are neglected. We are disappointed because of this, and we believe only Umno can look after our interests," he said.
